Additional Information

I am the Clinical Lead for the Systematic Review Initiative. My research in transfusion medicine focuses on the safe and appropriate use of blood components (red blood cells, platelets, plasma, cryoprecipitate) and their alternatives. A lot of my work has examined the use of platelet transfusions in people with haematological malignancies, and risk factors for bleeding. My research work involves systematic reviews (Cochrane and non-Cochrane), clinical trials and clinical studies. I work with several other organisations to improve health and healthcare. I have authored and co-authored more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals and co-led the convalescent plasma transfusion trials on behalf of NHSBT (transfusion aspects of RECOVERY and REMAP-CAP trials). I have received two NIHR Programme grants and one European Union research grant whilst working with the SRI. I am a recipient of the British Blood Transfusion Society’s Kenneth Goldsmith Award (2024) and a member of international research group, the BEST Collaborative, since 2015. I am the Co-ordinating Editor of Cochrane Haematology and an editor of the journal Transfusion Medicine.
